“One of us?” she asked, getting irritated. Everything was so cryptic, but then she remembered the painting, she remembered the eyes of the wolf.

“I’m different Erin,” Blu said. “A lot of us here in Lost Creek are…” he trailed off and took hold of her hand for a moment before he held it to his lips and kissed it tenderly. “Do you remember when I told you that this is a town of two halves?”

Erin nodded, her eyes wide and expectant.

“Well it’s also a town of two packs…” he stopped as if he was trying to gauge her reaction. “A pack of wolves… and a pack of bears.”

Erin let the words settle on her before she shrugged and urged him to continue.

“I’m part wolf, Erin,” he said heavily. “And I’m dangerous.”

Her heartbeat seemed to thunder through her ears as she tried to wrap her head around what he was telling her.

“I’m a werewolf, Erin,” he said sternly. “And after years of running away from my past, I’m finally back in town so that I can raise Luna with my pack… It’s our rightful home.”

Erin looked at him, totally stunned into silence. She had questions, so many questions, but none of them seemed to want to form. Her mind was blank and out of everything that had happened that night, this didn’t seem like such a shock anymore.

“I think I need to be alone,” she said finally.

  “But Erin,” Blu began.

“I… I don’t know what to say to you…” she trailed off and rubbed her head. She felt as if someone had body slammed her and she was trying to get up from the fallout.

“Please let me stay,” he whispered as he took hold of her hand and held it to his lips. “I’ve spent so many years alone, never wanting to get to know another person… But then I walked straight into you and all of that changed. I just want to be here. I just want to make sure you’re safe tonight.”

He was being sincere, she could tell that he meant every word and it felt so good to finally have someone to care about her again. She knew exactly what he meant when he said that he had spent such a long time alone because she had been in exactly the same situation.

She hesitated for a moment, unsure of whether it was the right thing to do. But after what she had seen back at The Nowhere Bar, and all she had heard, she didn’t want to be left alone. And she certainly needed more answers.

“Okay,” she whispered. “But what about Luna?”

“She’s with her uncle Scar,” he said. “She’s more than safe with him.”

Erin nodded and then lay back in the bed and pulled the covers up around her. As her mind raced with possibilities and questions, one thing more than anything still plagued her, something that she had heard the bear Thorben say when he had burst into the bar looking for a fight.

“You said he branded you a murderer?” she asked finally, her heart picking up pace with nerves.

“Yes… he and the rest of the bears did,” Blu said sadly. “And I left to save our kind from ending up in an almighty war. But I didn’t have anything to do with what happened. I still think to this day that I was set up. Someone wanted to cause trouble and they tried to make it look as if I had done something truly terrible.”

“What? What did they say you did?” Even as she asked the question she could tell that she didn’t want to know the answer.

Blu sighed heavily and the tears seemed to prick the corners of his eyes.

“They said I killed a boy. Thorben’s son…” he trailed off and he looked angry.

But even though it was a shock to hear, Erin knew immediately that there was no way this man in front of her was capable of doing something so truly terrible. He was kind, he was loyal, and he was a brilliant father. There was no way on earth he could or would ever harm a child. Rival pack or not…

“I didn’t do it, Erin,” he said again. “But I had to leave or all hell was going to break loose here and many others would have died. I had nothing left to lose after Maria was killed, and all I knew was that I had to keep Luna safe.”

Erin nodded. She could see how genuine he was being. His whole life had been turned upside down just as hers had been, and he had been on the run from it ever since.

  “I understand,” she said.

She let everything sink in. The revelation that she was amongst beings that weren’t all human was bizarre, but also one that didn’t ultimately bother her. She felt a connection to Blu, and if he was one of them, then she knew that she would be alright with him by her side.

“Do you think I’m safe here?” she asked suddenly. “You said you wanted to make sure that I was…?”

Blu faltered for a moment. “After what happened to Maria, I just don’t want to take any chances.”

Erin could feel the affection oozing out of him and settling on her own skin. She had to admit that sometimes in life, things do just happen for a reason, and even considering the adversity and glaring differences between them, she wanted him there with her. She didn’t want to be alone anymore.

“I’m exhausted,” she said. “My head is spinning.”

“I want you to sleep,” he said as he ran his hands through her hair. “It’s all so much to take in, I know how it all must sound.”

Erin nodded her head and closed her eyes. Her mind and body were weary and she needed to rest.

Even with everything she had encountered, with Blu by her side, she felt as if she could allow her mind and body to relax and it wasn’t long before she drifted off into a peaceful sleep. The only interruption throughout the night was her wild dreams… Of snarling bears and protective wolves. And of her finally feeling as if she had found a town of misfits, and a place that she could call home.

  10.

She woke up with Blu by her side, his heavy, thick arm wrapped tightly around her, and she smiled as she took in how it felt to be close to someone again.

She had heard some terrible things the previous day. She had learned many of Lost Creek’s secrets, and of how things went down where they were in the world. She hated the idea that someone had tarnished Blu’s name. She hated that when they had just found each other, they were up against an almighty outside force that may do everything in their power to destroy them. But she didn’t care. She had never felt a connection like it in her life, not even to the man she had spent so much time with, who had been ripped prematurely from this life, much like Maria had been taken from Blu’s.

She thought of how much they had in common. Their bond had been sealed the moment they had locked eyes with each other, and now after discovering their similarities, Erin honestly didn’t know how she could ever imagine a life without him.

She ran her fingertips down the side of his face and across the wiry stubble on his chin. He was so handsome, especially when he was sleeping, and she still couldn’t really get her head around the fact that deep within him he held a power so incredible he could change into an animal.

And not just any animal… A wolf.

A raging beast that was so dangerous and sexy it made her quiver. She felt her heart begin to race as she looked down at him and a rush of excitement between her legs. It had been such a long time since a man had touched her, since she had felt the warmness of another body close to hers, and just lying next to Blu was making her ache with desire.

He slowly opened his eyes and when he saw her he smiled.

“My god it’s good to wake up with you,” he breathed deeply as he wrapped his hands up in her hair and held her by the back of the neck. “It kind of feels as if we should have been doing this for a long time.”

Erin smiled and nodded. She knew exactly what he meant.

Even though they had only met a few days before, it felt as if they had known each other for months. As if their souls were old friends and they were finally reconnecting after time apart.

She looked into his eyes and knew that after they had been interrupted in the bar the previous evening, there was no way she could wait any longer for him to kiss her. She wanted him
. She needed him.

Blu pulled her gently by the throat closer to him and pressed his mouth against hers. As they kissed a wave of passion overtook her and she felt weak in his arms. She had never been kissed so hard in all of her life and it took her breath away. Her whole body quivered and felt like jelly against his, and she could feel something rising within him, something so deep and lustful she knew that he was about to overtake them both.

Blu let out a growl which he couldn’t suppress and it made Erin’s bones shake. She gasped and looked at him, at how big and powerful he was, and she willed him to overpower her, to do with her what he wanted and of what she so very much needed.

As if he had read her mind Blu pulled her closer to him and flipped her onto her back. In one swift movement, he was on top of her and she could feel the sharp poke of his arousal pressing into the inside of her leg. She moaned and held him tightly, barely able to control herself from gasping and begging him to take her right then and there.

“I want you, Blu,” she whispered. “I want you more than I’ve ever wanted anyone in my entire life.”

She looked up and could see the wolf in him emerging. He was no longer in control of his actions. His lust and need were taking over, rocking him to his core. He ran his rough hands up the side of her top and pulled it off over her head, exposing her pert, juicy breasts. He squeezed them together and buried his face in them, taking in her scent and growling feverishly as he worked himself into a frenzy.

“Can you handle me, Erin?” he growled as his teeth nipped the skin on her neck and he kissed her hard all down her throat.

She was so turned on she could barely speak, and even though she knew that the answer was probably no… She wanted to try anyway.

Blu slipped his hand into her panties and moaned when he felt how wet she was. She hadn’t been touched in such a long time, her body jolted and shook with ecstasy as he slipped a finger inside of her and opened her up again.

“Oh my,” she gasped as she threw her head back and dug her fingernails into his shoulders.

Blu grunted and pushed her back harder into the mattress, pinning her hands above her head with his free hand and with his other ripping at his belt and tugging down his jeans to reveal his incredible cock. As it sprang free and she saw it in all its glory, Erin couldn’t help but smile and pant, desperate to have him inside of her.

As he entered her, she felt a rush of heat and the most exquisite pain she had ever experienced. Her body had needed a man for such a long time, she could barely control herself from unraveling right there and then. He thrust into her and built up a slow and deep rhythm, reaching parts of her that she had long forgotten existed.

She wrapped her legs around him tightly and he held onto her buttocks tightly, gripping her and powering into her as hard as he could. He was so strong, and his body was so muscular and hairy, it was as if he could break her in half with each thrust inside of her.

Erin’s whole frame started to shake and she felt on the edge. She couldn’t hold on anymore, and as she felt Blu’s thighs tense and his breathing became even shallower and frantic she came in a crashing wave at exactly the same time as he exploded inside of her. She gripped onto his neck as he jerked and the spurts of his release cascaded into her, and then he collapsed down on top of her, his breathing heavy and fast and his forehead glistening with sweat.

She looked up at him and he kissed her powerfully on the mouth.

“You have no idea how much I wanted that,” she panted.

“And me,” he said. “It’s all I could think about since the second I first saw you.”

He kissed her on the forehead and pulled her close, his arm wrapped around his shoulders. He really was an incredible man. And not just a man… He was part wolf.

As they lay there Erin couldn’t help but wonder about the other side of him, the half he kept hidden. The part she was really yet to see.

“Change for me Blu,” she whispered. “I want to see you as you are.”

He looked down at her, his chest still heaving from the exertion, but a wicked smile flashed over his lips.

“You want me to show you what I am?” he said gruffly.

Erin nodded, her eyes wide with excitement.

Blu looked doubtful for a moment, but then he got to his feet. His naked body was still only centimeters away from her, and now she could see him in all of his glory. She bit her lip and tried not to get too turned on again.

He snarled and growled and she could sense the air in the room changing.

“Stay exactly where you are,” he growled. “My wolf is a bad one.”

Erin felt a gush between her legs. It was the sexiest thing she had ever heard.

As his body began to shake and change in front of her, she could barely believe her eyes. His skin tore open and fur sprang up in its place. A deep, majestic gray fur… So deep and exotic it was almost blue. His back elongated and so did his nose, his jaws were jagged with long fangs and his ears were tall and sharp. As Erin looked at the wolf in front of her she found it hard to see the bad, all she could see was the man she was falling for, and his beautiful blue eyes.

He growled and howled and the whole room shook. Erin could feel his power then and she knew what he meant. He was bad because he was so powerful. At any moment as a wolf, she could easily see how he could lose control. But she still knew that he wouldn’t be capable of murder.

She got to her feet slowly and the wolf bared its fangs and snarled. He didn’t want her to go any closer but she couldn’t help herself, she had to reach out and touch him. She had to know what he felt like.

As her fingertips brushed against its fur she felt a surge of electricity run into her. It was as if they had finally sealed a bond that had been growing closer with each passing second. She looked into the wolf’s eyes and in a way, it felt more intimate that their lovemaking. The wolf trusted her and was going to protect her now. She was going to be his for the rest of time.

As Blu shifted back into his human form Erin couldn’t help but shake with the emotion of it all. She had never expected to find someone so incredibly different and fascinating, and certainly not one with who she felt this way about. He was overtaking everything. He was all she needed and she never wanted the moment to end.

“My wolf may be bad, but it certainly likes you,” he said gruffly as he climbed back into bed and swept her up into his arms again. “All of this is right… All of it…”

Erin kissed him on the chest and closed her eyes.

“You’re my girl now Erin,” he said. “And I’m going to look after you in a way no one ever has.”

She felt butterflies dancing in her belly. And although she knew that their journey was only just beginning, she couldn’t wait to see where it would lead them next.

The woods were thick and green still, even though winter was fast approaching. Since her arrival in Lost Creek, Erin had become to love nature and all it had to offer her. She regularly walked around the forests at dusk, listening to the sounds of the trees and the streams that flowed gently through and meandered their way down the mountain.

She had been in town for almost four months, and she had become part of the fixtures fast and without incident. After the night in The Nowhere Bar, where she had learned the truth about Lost Creek and its residents, she had taken it all in her stride.

She still found it hard to believe sometimes that she was living her life amongst a town of wolf and bear shifters. But she had fallen in love, and love knew no bounds. It didn’t matter to her what Blu was, or what had happened in his past. She was getting to know him, and she knew who he was to her. Not what a small town of gossip had labeled him as all those years before.

It hadn’t been easy for him to return, but Erin had helped him settle back in and they had eased each other’s pain. After both of them had been in such terrible times, now they were moving forward and learning to love again. It was an incredible gift for them both, and one that Erin w
as eternally grateful for.

She stopped in her tracks and looked up at the fading sunlight. Up ahead she could hear them, running and playing, snuffling and growling. And she smiled.

As a family, this was their favorite part of the day. It was the time when Luna could finally be who she was destined to be, to allow herself that small window of opportunity to break free from the chains her human form placed on her.

The two wolves darted in and out of the trees ahead, and Erin watched them with fascination. They were both so regal looking, so majestic and greyish-blue in color. There was no doubt that they were father and daughter. Luna trotted down to one of the streams and ran through, spraying up a wave of crystal water that soaked Blu as he snarled and grinned, jumping on her and nuzzling her back out and onto the forest floor.

Yes, it had been a lot to take in… but it was more than worth it. After what felt like a lifetime of loneliness, now Blu, Erin, and Luna had all finally found some kind of peace. They were together now, always, and they would continue to strive forward.

Lost Creek really was their home. And they had never been happier.

  Chapter one

It all started, really, with me just innocently writing a letter to my parents. I was doing it old school style, putting pen to paper. I used to find that that felt pretty good sometimes. My parents were pretty low tech and had never gotten into computers or any of that technology. I don’t even think they owned a TV after I moved out. Anyhow, I digress.
