“The mine here in town was sunk, no one truly knows what happened, but many people disappeared and never came back. Workers, whole families, were taken out, and some believe a veil of sorts opened. A veil between two worlds which led this place to be a middle ground between good and evil.”

A chill rolled over Amanda’s body and she had look away for a moment. Hearing this was scaring her, but she knew that he had to tell her, if he didn’t then who knew what would become of them and their situation.

“My kind have always lived here, we were a family from back then, we expanded and we bred… And now there is a healthy group of us, packs of bears that mingle with other things that may have come from the time when the veil was broken, and when the mine was sunk deep into the earth. So much history has been buried Amanda, but one thing is certain… this town is what people fear it is. We have done an amazing job keeping it ticking over as a sort of freak show, a place where people come and visit a museum and get caught up in a fantasy land story, but in truth things couldn’t be more accurate.”

He took a breath and rubbed his jaw.

“There are families of wolves, families of bears, legends of witches and creatures some have never seen…” he trailed off. “And then, there is something else, something darker, that recently has found its way back… We think…”

  Amanda’s stomach began to churn.

“In the forest?” she whispered. “Is that what you saved me from?”

  Dean nodded slowly.

“I don’t know what it is, it is something we are all still trying to figure out… but animals are dying, lots of animals. Hundreds in fact. Men have gone missing and never returned, they have wandered into the forest and never come back out. None of this is normal, and the atmosphere around town has been strange. None of us have been able to explain it, but now we are working together to try and find out what is going on, and how we can stop it.”

Amanda pulled her knees up to her chest and hugged herself into them.

“This must all sound crazy,” Dean said. “But I promise you, it’s true.”

“And I believe you,” she smiled as she reached back for his hand. She lay hers lightly on top of his and felt the heat again.

Her mind was scrambled, but she still craved him. She still felt his heat and wanted him close to her, she wanted to know it all and even if she was afraid, she knew it would be worth it.

“You coming here to Bridge Hollow has awakened something in me,” he said. “I didn’t think I was capable of love, and I tried to stay away from you… but I just couldn’t.”

  Amanda smiled.

“Me too,” she said. “I haven’t entertained the thought of being with someone for almost ten years, but the second I saw you… something just clicked.”

“Our souls connected,” he said. “You’re here to make life worth living.”

She felt the tears welling up behind her eyes and she pulled him close to her. She thought of Lilith, of how bonded she felt to her already and of how even now, after only just hearing his truth, how she couldn’t imagine ever being parted from Dean.

  He was right…

They were each other’s futures and now she was going to fight for it.

She pulled him to her and climbed up onto his lap. She spread her legs and gripped his waist between them as their lips grazed together and she felt him getting hard and pushing himself against her. The feeling of his cock against her pussy, even through clothing, was enough to almost send her over the edge.

She hadn’t been touched in so long, and now there she was with a man who was more than anything she ever could have dreamed of.

She kissed him slowly on the mouth and his tongue searched her, he explored her mouth and then moved down to her neck, kissing her with his hot lips and sending shivers down her spine. She gasped as her nipples hardened and her cunt began to feel hot and engorged. She was already soaking wet for him, slick and juicy and ready to take him, and she pressed herself closer to his groin and he moaned back in return.

He reached up and pulled his shirt off over his head and threw it behind him and down onto the floor, when his big, expert hands went towards her she let him remove every last piece of her clothing. One by one, he removed her sweater, he peeled off her jeans and threw them away. He rolled her onto her side and kissed the bare skin of her hips, then down her legs as he removed her panties and moved back up to unhook her bra. Amanda writhed beneath him, opening her legs wider and waiting for the moment her touched her there, but he smirked and made her wait.

She lay there watching him as he reached for the buttons on his jeans and began to pop them open, and when he pulled them and his boxers down and his cock sprang free, she gasped and felt a gush of excitement flow out of her.

“Wow,” she panted as he held onto his shaft and jacked himself up and down before he moved on top of her and slipped a big, thick finger deep into her pussy.

She moaned as he worked her, and he growled as he felt how ready to take him she already was.

He took hold of her wrists and pinned her back into the big bounce of pillows, and with his free hand he grabbed his cock and guided it into her.

As he penetrated her and filled her with his huge, incredible length Amanda was already full of heat and pleasure. She was riding a wave, hard and fast, working up to a release quickly and without control. She gasped and groaned as Dean pumped his cock in and out of her, growing harder and harder with each thrust.

He pressed her down hard into the bed and she looked up into his eyes and saw the animal there. He was protecting her and claiming her. He may have imprinted on her when their eyes first met, but from this moment on, there was no going back.

  She was his now.

Their fate and future were now sealed.

From this moment on, they would never part.

Dean’s cock was buried deep inside of her, hitting her g-spot and opening her up in places she didn’t know were there. When she felt him getting harder and his thrusts came more rapid, she gripped him against her with her ankles and gasped as her own orgasm crested and thundered through her.

Dean exploded, his hot seed filling her and making her his for the rest of time.

He shuddered on top of her, a growl roaring out from between his lips and she saw the flash in his eyes of the animal within. The bear was trying to escape and win, but the man was keeping her safe. He was protecting his woman… his one true mate.

And now she had been claimed.

They collapsed down next to each other in a mess of ecstasy and pleasure, and Amanda rolled into the nook of Dean’s arm and nestled there, feeling more safe and satisfied that she ever had in her whole life.

“You’re mine baby,” he whispered. “Now and always.”

  “Forever,” she whispered.

  Fated.

They lay wrapped up in each other’s arms for the rest of the night. Not once breaking away from each other, and not wanting to ever let each other go.

After all the lonely years and all the denial, she knew that she had found what she needed. Deep down, Amanda had always believed in a love such as this, she had just tried her best not to look for it.

But in the end… it had found her instead.

  15.

The last day of Summer was much like you would expect. The trees were still lush and green, the sun still shone brightly, but there was a distinct breeze in the air up on the mountain and around town. The kind of breeze that carried with it a promise of more cold to come.

Amanda and Dean stood with their arms wrapped around each other, watching as Gwen said her goodbye’s to Ryder and Lilith and got the bus driver to haul her bags into the luggage compartment.

“I can’t believe our six weeks are up,” Gwen sighed as she turned back to face them and pulled Amanda in for a hug. “Hands off Dean,” she joked. “This is my turn.”

Amanda felt warm in Gwen’s arms and could never be more grateful for what she had done for her. She had brought
her to Bridge Hollow, she had made her open her mind to new experiences, and now there she was about to start a brand new life with the two people who meant the most to her in the world.

  Dean and Lilith.

Gwen stepped back and wiped away a tear and Dean laughed and pulled her in for a hug too.

“You don’t need to worry,” he said. “I’m going to look after her.”

Gwen looked up at Amanda and smiled.

“I know you will,” she said as she shook Dean’s hand and then took a step towards the coach.

It was hard to say goodbye, but it’s not like it was for forever.

The past six weeks had taught Amanda so much about life and love, that she had made the decision there and then not to waste another precious minute.

She and Dean had spent so long running from love, they had spent so long denying themselves meaningful connections, that when they had found each other their bond had come on fast and true.

  They were fated mates.

  Each other’s true other halves.

Gwen stepped up onto the step of the coach and took one last look up and down Main Street.

“It’s been one hell of a ride,” she said as she saluted Amanda, and her new friends.

“Come back and visit us, won’t you?” Ryder smiled as Gwen cast her eyes down to him.

“You can count on that,” she laughed. “Do you think I could ever just leave this crazy place and pretend like none of this happened? Hell no!”

Amanda laughed as she blew her best friend a kiss and watched through the windows as she made her way along the bus to find her seat. Gwen waved out at them and blew kisses back, and when the driver started the engine, Amanda had to hold back the tears as the bus started to pull away.

Dean wrapped his arm around her and touched the familiar part on her shoulder. The part that was most certainly now his. His hand just seemed to fit there, and whenever it found it, it was like that first night all over again.

The bus chugged down Main Street and slowly disappeared from view.

Two girls had arrived in Bridge Hollow six weeks before, but now only one of them was leaving.

Amanda had called her school two weeks into her stay and told her employer that she wouldn’t be returning in the fall. She told them she had found something much better, something that spoke to her on more levels than teaching.

She told them she had found her heart.

Lilith nuzzled in between them, and Amanda rested her hand on her shoulder.

This little girl had changed her world. Amanda had gone to this little town in the middle of the mountains, not expecting to have such a life changing experience, but there she was, and she was eternally grateful.

“I’m so glad you’re staying,” Lilith looked up at her with a beaming smile. “I’ve never seen my dad so happy.”

Dean looked down at his daughter and Amanda could feel the love between the three of them. As a unit, they would be strong, and they would survive.

“Did he tell you about the teacher’s position that’s available at my school?” Lilith chirped.

Amanda nodded and rubbed her head.

“He sure did, do you think I should go for it?”

Lilith clapped her hands together and jumped up and down on the spot.

“You have to go for it! Wouldn’t it be amazing if you were my teacher too!”

They all laughed and Dean rustled in his pocket for the keys to his truck.

“Come on then girls, we better head home.”

The chill in the air was getting stronger and he sniffed the wind and Amanda was sure she heard him growl. Lilith skipped off ahead of them and climbed into the back of the truck, and Dean slipped his hand into hers as they walked along.

“Gwen’s right,” he said. “It has been a wild ride.”

Amanda smiled and nodded in agreement.

“And I’ve got the feeling we haven’t even scratched the surface…” she whispered.

Dean squeezed her hand and then opened the door of the truck so that she could climb inside. When she sat down and buckled up, she turned and watched him get in beside her and she had never been happier. It was still a simple life, if not a little more crazy around the edges. But it was something she knew she could handle.

Finding her soul mate had made her willing to take on anything.

She looked over her shoulder at Lilith and felt so much gratitude. Not only had she found a man she would do anything for, she had found a daughter to help guide through her future. Someone she could love and be a friend to at the same time.

Together, the three of them worked. They were a strong bonded unit and it was clear the love was big between them.

The future of Bridge Hollow was still uncertain. Shifter packs were feeling the change, and the ice in the air was coming for all of them, but they would stay strong and they would fight whatever was coming their way.

For Amanda and Dean, they knew that together they could do anything.

Now they had found each other, anything was possible.

  Chapter One

The image in her rear-view mirror reflected the jagged New York skyline fading into the distance. The dim, gray color of the sky mirrored Cindy’s mood, drizzling large spattering rain drops onto her windshield.

“Good riddance, New York,” she muttered as she sped down the two-lane highway. Her time in the city had done her no favors outside of her professional life. More specifically, Reginald Anderson, though he preferred Reggie.

Cindy had fallen for his smooth demeanor, and the fact that he was a co-worker did not deter her from a series of toe-curling dalliances after hours. The affair ended badly. As it turned out, smooth-talking Reggie was having a clandestine romance with another colleague as well.

She found out about his “dalliance” one night when she had to return to work unexpectedly to retrieve a file she needed to go over before a morning meeting. When she got to the office, she spotted his light on down the hall and opted for a surprise pop-in.

“Hi, Reggie,” Cindy had purred as she opened his door. She found him between the thighs of his personal assistant, her bare backside perched on the shelf of his bookcase which was rattling against the wall as his hips thrust into her with great gusto.

He had not even tried to pretend an apology. “We never said we were exclusive,” he called out between gritted teeth, not even pausing his machinations. Cindy absorbed the scene in silence, watching them for a few seconds before she spoke.

“That’s okay,” she demurred. “I wanted to let you know I’d like to submit my resignation, effective at once. Goodbye Reg.”

In three days’ time, she managed to pare down her belongings enough to fit the remainder into the back of her Prius. What she could not cram into her car, she had dropped, without ceremony, to the nearest thrift store. She could not stop herself from chuckling as she drove past the sign indicating the edge of the small town she had once called home.

‘The City of Burning Falls Welcomes You!’ followed by a small clip art picture of a flame beneath a waterfall. The waterfall itself was far more poetic than the sign would show and the only thing which held any sentimental memories for her from her hometown.

“You are always welcome,” her grandmother said. “For as long as you like.”

“You might be right, Nan,” she had replied. “New York is wonderful, but the city is so fast paced. I think I need a break.”
/>
“What aren’t you telling me?” Nan replied with a wry tone.

“Why do you ask?” Cindy said, trying to evade the second sense her grandmother always had about her.

  “It’s that boy, isn’t it?”

  “Well, Reggie’s thirty-five, so I wouldn’t call him a boy.”

“I knew he was trouble, being so much older than you. It was not a good match.”

“Only ten years, Nan. That’s not that much older than me. And besides, I wasn’t looking for a match. Maybe just a flame.”

“I’d like you to come,” her grandmother said. “I’m not as young as I used to be, you know.”

“Oh, Nan. You’re only as young as you feel, as you always point out.”

“That’s the problem. I don’t feel as young as I once did. I’m getting tired more often, these days. It might be nice to have someone else here for a little while. Just in case.”

“Okay, fine. If only for a little while.”

Cindy and Nan had always had a unique relationship, much to the chagrin of Cindy’s parents. Nan had encouraged Cindy’s creative endeavors, always asking to see her latest designs, even when she was a child. After high school, she had skipped town as quick as she could blink, taking a job as an intern in New York, which led to a full-time position in the fashion industry. Cindy felt that much of her success came because of Nan’s encouragement.

A few minutes after passing the welcome sign, houses began to appear at the edge of the two-lane road. Farm houses placed back from the road with large, sweeping yards, gravel drives, and cute little flower gardens adorning the porches.

“Ah, home,” Cindy said, not without some irony in her tone. “New York, this is not,” she murmured. Soon, she arrived at Nan’s house. The nearest neighbor being about a quarter of a mile away, still visible, but from a distance. Cindy smiled as she pulled into the driveway.
