  “Where do you think you’ll go?” Jo asked as Kirsten brought her in for a hug and held her tight.

  “I don’t know yet,” Kirsten said. “But I’ll check in with you every day, so you know I’m okay.”

  “You better.”

  “Of course, I will,” Kirsten smiled as she slid behind the wheel and slammed the door.

  “I’m going to miss you,” Jo said genuinely. “It won’t be the same.”

  “I know,” Kirsten said sadly. “But we both have our own paths now. And I’m so glad you found where you need to be.”

  Jo smiled and felt the tears welling up behind her eyes. She really had found home. She had found something better than anything she had ever thought possible.

  Kirsten started the engine and slowly began to pull out of the parking lot.

  “I’ll be back,” she called over her shoulder to Jo. “One day. You better wait for me.”

  “Of course, I will!” Jo called back.

  Kirsten beeped the horn and pulled out onto the highway. The sun was setting and the pink light from the desert lit the road ahead. It was an ending, but it was also a beginning.

  Tanner came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her on the neck.

  “So this is home,” Jo whispered.

  “This is home,” Tanner replied.

  When they had started their trip, Jo had no idea what she was going to find. But there she was in Slate Springs, a wild desert town full of lawless bikers, being welcomed deep into their secret world, and she had never been happier.

  Tanner was the love of her life. They had bonded hard and fast, and now she was never going to let him go.

  “Come on,” he whispered as he wrapped her hand up in his and led her toward the gleaming Harley. “Let’s go home.”

  Slate Springs, she thought as she climbed onto the back of the bike behind him and wrapped her arms around him. I’ve got the feeling this is just the beginning of great things…

  And she couldn’t have been more right, even if she had tried.
